There are currently a couple of ISP here namely: CATSI DSL (Local Telephone Company), SMART BRO (From Smart Telecommunications) and IMindoro (DSL Provider only available in Sabang)

As you can see I get to have 3 choices. Yes there are 3 choices but in most scenario you will never have a choice.

Let me start with SMART BRO.

SMART BRO uses an antenna to connect to their network by setting up the canopy in a position with a Line of Site (LOS) to a Smart Tower in range. As you know, Puerto Galera is not just full of white sand beaches, it is also a mountainous area, and due to this it is really hard to get LOS to any Smart Tower especially if you are not located in White Beach, Muelle, Sabang (Only Downtown Sabang has a LOS) and Sto. Niño where the Smart Towers are located. I am currently located in Balatero (between Sto.Niño and White Beach) and imagine we are between those 2 Barangays with Smart Tower located in them and I can’t get a LOS. That really hurts a lot.

Now let’s Move to IMindoro.

Like I said earlier, IMindoro is only available in Sabang so there is no way for anyone located in other Barangay to be able to setup a connection to them. Also, if you are used to the rates in Manila and other provinces with PLDT DSL on them, you will really be shocked with the rates they offer. They are offering a 384 kbps DSL connection for 3,500 PESOS. Yes, 3,500 pesos for a connection just as fast as SMART BRO’s 999 Pesos.

And Lastly, CATSI DSL.

So you think because they are a Local TelCo they will be offering a lower price for this service, Hell No! They are offering a 128 - 256 kbps Connection (Damn this usually runs at a rate of 150 kbps) for 888.00, 256 - 384 kbps connection for 1999 and a 384 - 512 kbps connection for 3,500 pesos. I also have a lot of negative comment to their services but just don’t want to state it here.

I really hope that they offer a lower rate to make it more affordable because we all know how affordable it is to have an internet connection in Metro Manila wherein Manila has a higher cost of living.

So if you are planning to go here, don’t be shocked if you can see a lot of Internet Cafe offering high prices especially in White Beach and Sabang area. If you happen to visit Puerto Galera just enjoy the beach and bitch and relax. By the way, the internet rentals in Muelle is a lot more cheaper, 20 pesos per hour but still don’t expect a really fast connection because as of now there is no 1mbps connection here.

I agree when people say that Windows Vista eats up a lot of RAM. My current laptop has a 3 GB DDR2 RAM and I consume up to 75 percent of it with just running a couple of programs like: Firefox 3, Yahoo Messenger, MS Outlook, Vertrigo Server and a couple services running in the background, but that’s not a big deal anymore due to the prices of RAM modules now are a lot more lower than the prices 2-3 years ago.

In my opinion, Windows Vista is a great OS but it really depends on the specs of your PC. If you have a 2 year old PC I suggest get a RAM upgrade and it will definitely run Windows Vista with no problem at all. And also, I really don’t want to compare Windows XP to Vista because based on my experience Windows Vista is a lot more stable than Windows XP.

The message is  the result of an error loading your screensaver looking for flash.ocx. As you can see, Adobe changed the filename of the well known flash.ocx into flash9f.ocx or flash9.ocx. So everytime your screensaver tries to load due to idle status it cannot find the file flash.ocx because there is no file with that filename.

Please follow the solution below to stop the annoying “could not find flash.ocx” error

1. Go to My Computer  –> Drive C –> Windows Folder –> System32 folder –> Macromed folder –> flash folder

2. Create a copy of the file flash9f.ocx or flash9.ocx in to the same folder.

3. Rename the file with flash.ocx

4. Test your screensaver.

5. Finish

Now you can use your computer free from the annoying “could not find flash.ocx” error message

So, is our economy really better than before? Maybe in the point of view of the economists and capitalists our economy is great but for the common people which includes me and more than 70% of the people in the Philippines we really can’t see anything good that is happening to our economy.

The problem in the Gloria Macapagal - Arroyo Administration is that they really don’t seem to care about the needs of the Filipino people. They keep on insisting that the economy is getting better, but what the common people needs is for their life to be better.

They tell us Economy is getting stronger but the prices of all commodities are rising. Along with the price hike is low wage and worst of all, unemployment.Our government keeps on telling us that they are offering many job openings for the Filipino to solve the high unemployment rate in our country, but what they give are 3 or 6 months contractual positions which have no assurance of getting to be renewed. Is this how we solve Unemployment problems Mrs. President

?They keep on telling us that they are really happy that the Philippine Peso is getting stronger against US Dollar. Damn it! A lot of Filipinos are working abroad to earn money for their family here in the Philippines. Do you think they are happy to know that a couple of years ago their 200 USD is equivalent to Php10,000 already and now it is more likely below Php 8,000. Even those who are engaged in exportation feels these problems because they will be earning less. So is this something we should be happy about?

I know that a strong nation come with strong economy, high valuation of currency and strong faith of the people for the government. But what we lack now is the faith and trust of the people in our government.

For those who still insist that the life now is better than before, try to live the way of a common people, experience working your whole life and still you can’t afford to have a time to relax because your salary is almost not enough for your family. Try to live that way and you’ll realize what the common people are saying.
