How to share single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers?

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Ever wonder how 1 computer user can control other terminal computers without leaving the server computer?

We all know about remote desktop connection in windows. But the downside of having a remote desktop connection is the current terminal user will be logged out from the system when the administrator connect to it remotely.

The program I am refer is called “Synergy.” This is an open source program which means its free to use. No registration needed.

Here is an excerpt from their site and explains what Synergy is capable of.

“Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all.”

Ubuntu Feisty Fawn

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

I have been using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 64bit Edition for several months and so far I am really pleased with its performance. I already tried several Linux Distros like Red hat, Fedora Core, Suse, Mandrake and Linspire (formerly lindows) but in my own personal opinion, Ubuntu stands out from the rest.

Ubuntu being known as a free distro of linux really works well. Hardware compatibility is not an issue and wine is perfectly running. So far this linux distro is my favorite.

I will continue testing it and will post more information as I uncover more of Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.
